Sir John Parker

Chairman, Anglo American

A past president of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Sir John Parker is not only the current chairman of Anglo American but also deputy chairman of DP World and a director of EADS and Carnival Corporation. Sir John joined heavy industry manufacturer Harland and Wolff aged 17 as an apprentice naval architect and went on to gain a DSc in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture from Queen’s University Belfast. Since then he has held roles including chair of the Court of the Bank of England, has served on the Defence Academy Advisory Board, and chaired five FTSE 100 companies including the National Grid. He is a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford and was knighted in 2001 for his services to the defence and shipbuilding industries.
