Jim Murphy, MP

The prominence of Labour politician Jim Murphy rose in 2014 with the Scottish independence campaign, as a conspicuous activist for the ‘No’ campaign. Having won the campaign, Murphy intends to play an influential role in trying to reunite the arguably divided Scotland, and in December, Murphy was elected leader of the Labour Party in Scotland. Murphy served previously as shadow secretary of state for defence and then international development. Whilst in government, he served as secretary of state for Scotland.
