The Responsibilities of the Groom
The groom must be involved and consulted at every step, but there are a number of responsibilities that are traditionally his alone.
The best man is there to help the groom fulfil his duties and make sure that his jobs get done.
He is responsible for choosing and fully briefing the best man and ushers, explaining what they are expected to wear.
He should advise the best man of any expectations he may have for the stag night, and whom he wants to attend.
The groom takes charge of the wedding rings; he hands them to the best man on the day.
He arranges the transport to the ceremony venue for himself, the best man and the ushers.
Thank you presents must be bought for the bridesmaids, pages, ushers and best man (distributed after his speech). His mother and mother-in-law should also receive a present or bouquet.
He should also organise a hotel or equivalent for the wedding night and booking the honeymoon; some couples prefer to do this together.
He delivers a speech, and remembers to thank everyone involved.
