Ursula Mackenzie

Chief Executive, Little, Brown Book Group

Britain’s first female president of the Publishers’ Association, Ursula Mackenzie started out as a lecturer in English and American Literature at the University of Hong Kong before pursuing her career in publishing. Born in the Midlands and educated at the University of Nottingham where she gained her PhD, her first publishing job was with literary agency International Scripts before she moved to Granada Publishing and then Transworld where she eventually became publishing director and then hardcover publisher. She joined Little, Brown Book Group in 2000 where she helped bring about considerable progress in performance, and she was appointed chief executive in 2006, winning two Publisher of the Year awards during her time. She is also a previous chair of the Trade Publishers’ Association and president of the Publishers’ Association.
