Wedding Stationery Styles

The first hint of the style of the wedding is revealed the moment the invitation lands on a guest's doormat.

The couple's stationery may introduce the wedding theme, be it traditional, vintage or contemporary, which reflects the general look and feel of the wedding.

There are many options available, so it is important to consider different ideas, whether traditional, modern or something quite unusual.

Wedding Invitation Ideas

The most traditional and elegant wedding invitations combine quality of material with simplicity of style.

The quality of stationery is important - invest in good thick card for a feel of quality.

Invitations may also be printed on contemporary materials, such as vinyl, Perspex or fabric.

Engraved stationery may be expensive, but is often considered the finest.

For smaller budgets, look out for online services where you can personalise and design your own invitations.

Look out for small companies that specialise in beautiful handmade products; many will have a range of papers, patterns and styles to suit your wedding theme.

A traditional wedding invitation is made of cream or white matt heavy card. It should be 8 x 6 inches (20.3 x 15.2 centimetres) folded in half with the text on the first (outer) page, usually in black copperplate script.

Some invitations are designed to include a dotted line for the guests' names.

A calligrapher can be hired to address the invitations and envelopes.
