Buxton Festival

10.07.15 - 26.07.15
Derbyshire

The 17-day long Buxton Festival is one of Britain's biggest arts festivals. It draws around 35,000 people to the Peak District town each July to watch a number of rarely staged operas, from the baroque period to contemporary pieces, performed in English.

Past coups at the Buxton opera festival have included the UK premières of obscure works by Mozart, Rossini and Handel. A Literary Series runs in tandem with the opera programme, featuring talks by prominent novelists, biographers, political authors and others, and evenings see film screenings and various cultural events.

In previous years, the programme has included many opera and music performances, including Dvořák’s The Jacobin, Rossini’s Otello, concerts by The Lawson Trio, Innovation Chamber Ensemble and the Schubert Ensemble. Free weekend events for visitors of all ages include storytelling in the Magical Storytelling Yurt.
