Irish 1000 Guineas

24.05.15
Curragh Racecourse, Kildare, Ireland

The Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas & Tattersalls Gold Cup is a popular flat horse race for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies, run over a distance of a mile. It is preceded on the Saturday by the Irish 2000 Guineas, the first classic race of the year.

The first race took place at the Curragh racecourse in 1741. The first Irish Derby was run there in 1866, and since then the Curragh has hosted the most prestigious flat races in the Irish racing calendar.

The Curragh is also at the heart of the Irish bloodstock industry, and many training stables and stud farms have developed in this region. Horses trained here have won many major races worldwide.

Located less than an hour from Dublin, and directly accessible by train, this racecourse can be combined with a city break stay in the Irish capital.
