Professor of tropical medicine Jeremy Farrar exerts great influence on British medical science as director of the Wellcome Trust, one of the biggest medical charities on the planet, which is devoted to achieving improvements in health. Farrar has served on a number of World Health Organisation advisory committees and contributed to numerous scientific papers. Farrar assumed his role at the Wellcome Trust having spent 18 years establishing one of Asia’s leading infectious disease units in Vietnam where he identified the recurrence of bird flu.
