Dame Helen Mirren, DBE

Actress

Dame Helen Mirren has had an international career that spans screen, stage and television. Brought up in Essex in a ‘very anti-monarchist’ family, her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen won her acclaim and awards, including an Olivier Award and an Academy Award for Best Actress. Descended from Russian aristocracy, her father changed the family name from Mironova to Mirren when she was nine. Beginning her career with the National Youth Theatre in the role of Cleopatra, Mirren later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company before landing her breakthrough television role in Prime Suspect. Her work has spanned numerous productions, audiences and accolades to make Mirren the national treasure she is today.
