Penelope Curtis

DIRECTOR, TATE BRITAIN

Museum matriarch Penelope Curtis took the helm of Tate Britain back in 2010 and has embarked on an impressive period of development, including overseeing a rehang, a £45 million redevelopment and staging a range of impressive exhibitions including Picasso and LS Lowry. As a child Curtis always enjoyed rehanging her parents’ paintings, and with a grandmother as a painter, there was never a shortage of art to inspire. She studied History at Oxford before completing an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute in London, and had an impressive tenure as curator of the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds before being headhunted for the role at Tate Britain.
