Sir Michael Hintze

Philanthropist

A British-Australian hedge fund manager based in the UK, Hintze has supported around 150 causes through the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, with particular focus on health, education, religion and culture. After working for firms including Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse First Boston, Hintze established the foundation with his wife Dorothy in 2005. Notable donations have included sponsoring the restoration of Michelangelo’s frescoes at the Vatican’s Pauline Chapel, awarding £2 million to the National Gallery and, in 2014, giving £5 million to the Natural History Museum, the biggest single gift in the museum’s history. He is a current trustee of the National Gallery and of the Institute of Economic Affairs, and was knighted in 2013 for services to the arts.
