Sharon White

Chief Executive, Ofcom

Widely hailed as a breath of fresh air and a face to ensure Ofcom continues to promote a thriving communications sector, Sharon White will take up the new post of chief executive. Previously the director general for public spending at HM Treasury, and a director general at both the Ministry of Justice and the Department for International Development, White has spent over 25 years working her way to the top in the public sector and government, including stints in Washington DC’s British Embassy and the World Bank. The daughter of Jamaican immigrants, she studied for Economics at Cambridge and UCL, and has since gone on to smash any remaining glass ceilings on her way to the top.
