Julian Dunkerton

Founder, Supergroup

Julian Dunkerton is co-founder of Supergroup, the parent company behind the Superdry brand, and one of the most successful British business ventures of recent years. The company began life as Cult Clothing on a Cheltenham market stall in 1985, with Dunkerton selling clothes out of bin bags. The company quickly expanded during the 1990s, establishing stores across university towns before opening its first store under the Superdry name in Covent Garden in 2004. Today, after being floated on the stock market in 2010, Superdry is worth more than £700 million, employs more than 2,000 people across the UK and is sold in more than 40 countries worldwide. Dunkerton, who stepped down as chief executive in October, still owns 32 per cent of the company and has an estimated personal fortune of £332 million.
