Christopher North

Managing Director, Amazon

Christopher North has been steering Amazon out of murky waters since becoming managing director in 2011, having previously been in charge of Amazon UK’s media businesses. A native New Yorker, North studied at Harvard and New York University and followed the route into management consultancy with Booz Allen Hamilton. He subsequently, in what may come as a surprise to those who perceive Amazon as publishing’s greatest enemy, worked for a long time in book publishing at Phaidon Press and HarperCollins Canada, working his way to become vice president and general manager of electronic publishing for HarperCollins Publishers. Since joining Amazon in 2006 as head of books, North has more than proved his ability, and currently serves on the Advisory Committee of Business for New Europe.
