Bespoke Suits
A bespoke suit is an investment. It will be a unique creation; perfectly fitted suits are rare so, when worn, they instantly stand out. A tailor should be found on reputation and by looking at the suits he makes and wears.
The process begins with a consultation. The tailor should be told the customer is looking for and get an idea of their style. Weight of cloth, patterns, colours and styling of the suit is also discussed at this stage.
The tailor will measure the customer and, from that, will create a pattern. The suit is tried on at the first fitting. Often there will be no lining at this stage. All aspects of the suit's fit, from sleeve length to button height, will be checked.
There will be three or four fittings for the suit. A virtually finished suit is tried on at the final fitting; the only things left undone at this stage will be the hand-stitching that will finish the suit.
The suit will take about eight to ten weeks after the first consultation. It should take a tailor about 60 hours, in total, to make.
The suit should improve with age and, if well made, it will gradually mould itself to fit the body.
