Darren Henley, OBE

Chief Executive, Arts Council England

The managing director of Classic FM, Darren Henley rose to the position of chief executive of the Arts Council in 2013. Beginning his career as a freelance radio journalist while still a student at the University of Hull, Henley initially joined Classic FM as an overnight newsreader, becoming managing director at the station in 2006 after progressing up the ranks. Henley has led reviews into music and cultural education for the government which have resulted in numerous initiatives, including the Arts Council’s Museums and Schools Programme and England’s first national plan for music education. He continues to champion the importance of arts and culture in every aspect of our lives.
