Seating Plan Practicalities
The seating plan for a wedding takes a lot of time and thought. The best approach is to sit down and start sketching it out - names will soon fall into place.
First, a plan of the room should be made, locating the wedding party's table(s). Important family or guests' tables can then be allocated.
Cut out pieces of paper to represent each table and write the name of each guest on a post-it note or tag. The tables and guests can then be laid out and moved around.
Positions for the speeches and wedding cake cutting, as well as access routes for the caterer and photographer, must also be considered.
If possible, each guest should be flanked by a person of the opposite sex. Ideally, one lively couple or person should be located on each table; spread the ushers around.
Guests should be able to recognise at least one other person on their table.
Many couples choose to mix the generations but the most successful seating plans, with the most sustained conversation, are created by seating people with their own age group.
