Banksy

Graffiti Artist

Known internationally for his political and satirical graffiti, English artist Banksy is probably the most famous street artist in the world. Many people in both Britain and further afield will have seen a work or two by Banksy lurking around their home cities, where he often paints his subversive and highly political street art and epigrams onto streets, walls and bridges around the world. His work emerged out of the underground scene in Bristol in the 1990s, when he worked with graffiti gang DryBread Z Crew. Although his identity has not been proven, it has been suggested that Banksy is in fact Robert Gunnigham, a Bristol-born artist. In 2010 his award-winning film Exit Through the Gift Shop was released to critical acclaim and nominated for a Best Documentary Academy Award. With themes of war, capitalism, greed and hypocrisy, Banksy’s work is as relevant as ever.
