Sarah Lucas

ARTIST

Through the tools of photography, sculpture and installation, Sarah Lucas has been offering provocative comments on the erotic, the repressed, the degrading and the disturbing since the inception of her artistic career. After leaving school at 16, she studied at the Working Men’s College, the London School of Printing, and Goldsmiths, where she studied Fine Art. She exhibited in the famous Freeze exhibition of 1988 alongside contemporaries Damien Hirst, Angus Fairhurst and Gary Hume, and subsequently appeared as one of the major British artists of the 1990s. Today she is particularly known for her bawdy genital punning and use of furniture and household objects as substitutes for the human body. Lucas is set to represent the UK at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
