Maggie Aderin-Pocock

Presenter, The Sky at Night

Born the year before man landed on the moon, Maggie Aderin-Pocock grew up surrounded by excitement about space. As a child, she was allowed to stay up late to watch one programme, The Sky at Night, and despite being unable to see many stars in London’s light-polluted sky from her council flat in Camden, she saved up to buy a telescope. Sadly, it wasn’t very good, so when Aderin-Pocock spotted an advert for telescope-making classes, she enrolled. This began what was to become a career as a lead space scientist, and in 2014, she stepped into the shoes of her childhood inspiration, Patrick Moore, to become the Sky at Night presenter. Aderin-Pocock helps to share her lifelong enthusiasm for the subject: she has given talks to over 100,000 school children and has delivered lectures the world over.
