Types of List

Lists are available through department stores, specialist wedding list companies, shops, charities or travel agents. There are also many companies that offer more unusual lists.

The wedding list must be set up before the invitations go out, at least three months in advance of the big day.

Most companies have the facility for the couple to manage their list online, allowing them to add or change items, see what's been bought and top up the list as required. Some couples choose to have a wedding list with more than one company, allowing guests more choice. For example, they may have a gift list with both a department store and a charity.

The bride and groom should choose items across a wide price range so that guests feel less restricted in their choice of present. Once the items have been chosen and the list compiled, the holding company will manage the list.

The list-holder will also store the goods until it is convenient for the bride and groom to receive them, usually after the honeymoon.
