2015 Local Government Showcase and Ordinary General Meeting

The 2015 LG Showcase and OGM will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace, Adelaide on Thursday 30 April and Friday 1 May. There is also a dinner being held on Thursday 30 April.

Program

The LGA is pleased to announce that they have secured three keynote speakers for the 2015 LG Showcase and OGM they are: Hon Warren Truss MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development; Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, Treasurer, Minister for Finance, State Development, Mineral Resources and Energy and for Small Business; and Gary Oakley, Australian War Memorial Indigenous Liaison Officer.

A draft program will be available shortly which will also include the showcase topics.

Meet the Experts - Wednesday 29 April

For the first time the LGA is offering an optional day on the Wednesday 29 April which will highlight key opportunities for Councils to participate in exciting opportunities with the benefits of sharing costs and learning with other SA Councils. The sessions will run from 10.00am till 4.00pm and finishing off with networking drinks. The cost to attend the sessions and networking drinks is
$60 + GST. Online registrations will open shortly. A program will be available end of March.

Dinner speaker

At the 2015 LG Showcase and OGM Dinner we will hear from Damien Thomlinson, an Australian veteran of the war in Afghanistan. Inspired by the military history of his Grandfather, Damien joined the Australian Defence Force and at the age of just 24 achieved his dream of becoming a Commando. This elite group is tasked with the most physically demanding, mentally challenging and dangerous roles in the armed forces, often behind enemy lines.

Council Notices of Motion - Timeframe

Pursuant to LGA Constitution Rule 25.3.1, all Council Notices of Motion for the LGA Annual General Meeting must be received by the LGA no later than 42 days prior to the meeting ie 12.00 noon on Friday 20 March 2015.

The process for submitting Notices of Motion is as follows:

1.  Councils contact the LGA to discuss the intent of a Notice of Motion, clarify any existing LGA policy positions and to determine the current status of particular issues.  Initial contact should be made to carina.boyce@lga.sa.gov.au outlinining the subject and proposed wording of the motion along with any other background information.  This will then be referred to the relevant LGA officer to respond to the enquiry.
2. Following those discussions, Council's will be provided with a copy of the Notice of Motion template to be completed and submited (as a Word document) by 12.00 noon on Friday 20 March 2015.

Voting Delegates

Unless contrary advice is received, the nominated Council voting delegate as notified for the LGA Annual General Meeting held in October 2014, remains the same. It is recommended that all Councils contact Trudy Muggridge on 8224 2028 or email trudy.muggridge@lga.sa.gov.au to check their nominated voting delegates. Alternatively Councils may nominate a new voting delegate by completing and returning the form below by Thursday 2 April 2015.

Certificates of Service for Council Members and Staff

Currently serving Council Members, and individuals who have served as a Council Members or Council Staff, for 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40 years or more are eligible to receive a Certificate of Service. The LGA has determined that due to the prestigious status of the Certificates of Service they will be presented before an audience of the recipient's peers at the Showcase Dinner on Thursday 30 April 2015. Recipients of the Certificates of Service will be invited to attend the Showcase Dinner as a guest of the LGA. Click here to complete the online Certificate of Service form, by Thursday 2 April 2015.
