Debrett’s is looking for an editorial intern to work across its reference publications Peerage and Baronetage and People of Today.

First published in 1769, Debrett’s Peerage & Baronetage is the only up-to-date printed reference guide to the UK’s titled families: the peers, baronets, and their descendants who form the fascinating tapestry of the peerage. People of Today, published annually for over 30 years, celebrates those individuals who are positively influencing Britain and inspiring others through their achievements and leadership.

The internship offers the opportunity to receive training in, and work on, all aspects of the publishing process, and to become involved in other areas of the business as a whole.

This three-month paid position would suit a recent graduate with a keen interest in genealogy, biography and current affairs, looking for experience in an editorial role. The internship may lead to a permanent position at Debrett’s.

Job Specification:

Learning the skills required to edit People of Today and the Peerage and the rules that govern who is included.

Providing administrative support for mailouts, collating and logging returns and finding new addresses for people who have moved.

Researching entrants and keeping abreast of current affairs to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date.

Daily examination of the Times and Daily Telegraph birth, death and marriage announcements.

Writing entries for new peers as they are announced.

Supporting other departments by proofreading documents including presentations and marketing material.

Writing marketing content for targeted mailings, email newsletters and social media.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good grasp of grammar and punctuation.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Interest in current affairs.
  • Experience working with databases is an advantage.

Job description

Applicants must have strong communication skills, both spoken and written including good copy-writing skills. They will be responsible for writing pitches and presentations and will have ownership of salesforce activity across the team.

·         Maintaining and developing relationships with existing customers in person and via telephone calls and emails

MARKETING MANAGER

Overview

Debrett's now has an exciting opportunity for a talented marketing professional to join its Mayfair-based team.

We are looking for an ambitious, career-minded individual to take ownership of the full marketing strategy and its implementation (with a focus on customer marketing, partnership, and digital/online) across a varied product portfolio including leather goods and stationery, etiquette training, books and content licensing as well as a private client event service.

The ideal candidate will be highly creative in their outlook, a skilled communicator, culturally savvy and with a strong interest in heritage and/or luxury lifestyle. A background in working with a variety of different lifestyle brands is preferred, with online and ecommerce experience an advantage.

Activities

Strategy

  • Work closely with the marketing director on setting the overall brand strategy and determining the marketing strategy per product type
  • Produce a monthly calendar of all promotional marketing activity
  • Proactively look for brand partnership opportunities and ways in which to promote the various branded products through different initiatives
  • Work closely with CRM team to develop marketing ideas for the member database

Online/Digital

  • Create and implement all online marketing and promotional activity
  • Work with external agency on all digital advertising
  • Work with design team to develop and implement online promotions

senior Designer

Overview

Debrett's now has an opportunity for a cutting edge senior designer to join its Mayfair-based team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented creative to take ownership of the design function, playing a pivotal role in shaping all visual aspects of the Debrett’s brand to incorporate the heritage influence with todays luxury lifestyle trends, including digital, print, social media and marketing communications. An understanding of the luxury market is preferred.

Activities

Branding and marketing

  •  Building on Debrett’s existing luxury brand positioning to expand it’s recognition to new audiences and disciplines – in the UK and globally.
  • Support all innovative business development plans to varying target audiences.
  • Producing both print and digital marketing material for Debrett’s including magazines, newsletters, brochures and invitations.
  • Maintain constant awareness of commercial as well as aesthetic imperatives.

Product Design/Publishing

  • Creative planning and research tasks to aid product development.
  • Liaising with manufacturers to ensure an efficient and cost effective process.
  • Experience of project management including production.
  • Publishing/print design and production including cover design and implementing all content.  An understanding of print processes is essential

Website Management

  • Keeping the website up-to-date and relevant by regularly changing images and content.
  • Using e-commerce website software.

Photography

  • Taking and editing product and lifestyle images.

International

  • Liaising with the office in China to produce relevant dual language marketing material.
