Osiris Hinton, a 23-year-old man charged with murder, might get to see the father he admitted killing one more time before the 47-year-old Rock Hill attorney is laid to rest on Saturday.

Judge Scott Sprouse denied Hinton bond during a Friday morning hearing, but ordered an expedited mental health evaluation and conceded to allow Hinton a private viewing — while still in the custody of the Spartanburg County jail — of his deceased father, Oshun “Cyrus” Hinton.

Osiris Hinton is accused of shooting his father in the head at the family's home Sunday evening. When deputies arrived at the house on Eastway Drive in Spartanburg, Hinton reportedly told officers “I killed my father. I killed my father.”

During Friday's bond hearing, Hinton's attorney, Spartanburg County Councilman Michael Brown, made no attempt to refute his client's spontaneous confession. Instead, Brown said Hinton was suffering from a misdiagnosed mental health condition and a bad combination of medications that put him into a “psychotic state.”

Phoebe Hinton, Osiris Hinton's mother, told the judge she and her husband had been working to get their son help for mental health problems for “a while.” Phoebe Hinton said Osiris and his father were “very close,” and that she will continue to support her son as she grieves for her husband.

“We love Osiris. His family has never stopped loving Osiris. His family is behind him,” she said.
