Long Island Area Director

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Long Island Chapter seeks qualified candidate for Area Director in Long Island. Area Director is responsible for working with the Regional Director organizing and implementing our signature event, Out of the Darkness walks, chapter fundraising, board development and programmatic activities. Responsibilities include financial oversight of budgets and goals, recruiting, organizing, and supervising volunteers, securing sponsorships, and managing events. Position is based in Long Island working from a home office. Must be willing to travel throughout chapter territory. 

Qualifications

3-5 years proven event fundraising at a national nonprofit planning walks, galas and special events fundraising.

Experience in volunteer management, budgeting and program delivery. Experience managing nonprofit Boards. Bachelor's degree with strong interpersonal and communications skills

Oregon Area Director

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) seeks qualified candidate for the position of Area Director for Oregon. The Area Director is responsible for organizing and implementing the Chapter’s signature Out of the Darkness walks and other fundraising, board development and programmatic activities throughout the state. Specific responsibilities include recruiting, organizing, and supervising volunteers for local events, attending to logistical details, securing sponsorships, supervising the actual events, and financial oversight. Position will work out of a home office and must be willing to travel throughout the state.

Qualifications

Five Years experience with a demonstrated track record of conducting financially successful fundraising events in a national nonprofit organization, preferably a health-related organization with chapters. Demonstrated skills in volunteer recruitment and development and budgeting and planning. Bachelor’s degree with strong interpersonal and communications skills required.  Experience as a staff person working with nonprofit Boards preferred.

Communications Intern

AFSP is seeking a Communications Intern to work with our Communications team on ongoing marketing and communications activities for 2015. The intern will gain experience in proactive media relations, including social media, work with our team on the marketing and promotion of the Out of the Darkness Walks, manage and organize the physical and digital inventory of our marketing materials, research, write and design marketing materials, and work with the team on photo, video and audio needs for events and marketing materials

Qualifications

The intern will be required to have the following skills: Education or experience in Communications, PR or Journalism, familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet capable, excellent organizational and communication skills, creative, positive attitude, willingness to learn, a team player with strong interpersonal skills, detail-oriented thinking with an ability to multi-task, responsible, with an ability to work independently and follow-through on the completion of tasks. Interest in nonprofit communications and graphic design experience a plus.

Compensation

This is internship is for college credit. A small travel stipend will be given if applicable.
