Thanks to anime distributor Madman's plans to bring the live-action Attack on Titan film to theaters in Australia and New Zealand this year, we have our first English-subtitled preview.
The first of two parts opens in Japan on August 1, with the second film, Attack on Titan: End of the World, scheduled for September 19. Watch the subbed version of the trailer after the jump.

The fifth volume of Daisuke Ashihara's World Trigger manga offers a slight reprieve from the Neighbor-battling action of previous chapters. Instead the focus turns to training and tests, as four-eyed non-wonder Osamu Mikumo finds himself ranked higher than he should be, the target of much attention along with his fast friend, the Neighbor Yuma Kuga. The stakes might not be as high, but there's plenty of action here that helps build up to the series' most overwhelming invasion yet.

United States President Barack Obama was feeling particularly grateful while welcoming Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the White House. He thanked the PM for a handful of Japan's key cultural contributions to the United States, including, of course, manga and anime.

It looks like the recent movies were just a taste of the Dragon Ball action to come. For the first time in 18 years, Akira Toriyama's series is getting a new TV anime, Dragon Ball Super, set to premiere this July in Japan.

This week, at the opening of a Naruto art exhibition in Tokyo, a 15-year-old question was finally answered, as visitors got a look at character Kakashi’s face for the first time.
Copy Ninja Kakashi’s visage, hidden under a ninja mask throughout Naruto’s 15-year run, was revealed in a booklet given to visitors to the exhibition.

Recently we got word from director Hideaki Anno himself that though Evangelion 4.0 is in the works, it probably won’t be coming out anytime soon.
But that won’t stop the merchandising! The word this week is Schick, those razor guys, are teaming up with Evangelion yet again to offer Eva-branded shaving implements and help rid Gendo Ikari of that Abe Lincoln-lookin’ beard of his.

Despite its reputation as a futuristic land of robots and high-speed trains, Japan actually trails behind the States in quite a few technological areas, like widespread wifi or internet banking.
One area in which Japan seems to be catching up to the west is in offering up smartphone-based manga. A host of new apps have debuted in recent days, allowing readers access to both professional and would-be professional manga, says the Asahi Shinbun.
