(Jan 9, 2015, Chattanooga, TN) -
Chattanooga FC players Greg Hartley, Luis Trude and Niall McCabe
have been selected for a special honor this weekend: to
participate in the National Premier Soccer League's first ever
Combine Tournament at the Broward
College Soccer Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
These
talented players – well known in Chattanooga and fan favorites –
will get the chance to showcase their talents in front of
professional scouts and coaches including representatives from
the North American Soccer League (NASL).
Chattanooga FC’s own Head Coach Bill
Elliott, winner of the NPSL's 2015 Alexander Arellano Memorial
Trophy for top head coach in the league is now honored with the
duty of coaching the NPSL all-star teams at this first Combine
Tournament.
“I am honored to get to coach such a
group of amazing athletes for the league,” said Bill Elliott. “It
is even more exciting to think that some of these guys might get
opportunities at higher levels after this weekend.”
Die hard CFC fans and The
Chattahooligans will be sad to see such talented players leave the
club, but will be happy to see them continue to succeed in higher
levels of soccer. We have grown to love the players and wish them
only the best.
“This is such a wonderful opportunity
for our players,” said General Manager Sean McDaniel. “Getting a
chance to show their talents and perhaps be picked up by
professional teams is what these guys dream of. Chattanooga FC
aims to be the best amateur club in the country, and that means we
should be moving some of our best players up into the professional
ranks.”
Greg Hartley has been a member of CFC
for the past three seasons and Luis Trude has joined the club for
two of the past three seasons. Both players have been instrumental
in CFC's National Title bids in 2012 and 2014. Niall McCabe was
new to the club in 2014 but made a huge impact with skillful play.
Along with the actual tournament, North American Soccer League (NASL)
Commissioner Bill Peterson will be a guest speaker at the NPSL
Combine Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
The NPSL
teams feature each of the league's four Regions. The teams are
comprised of all-stars from each Region. The teams will train
together on Friday, then play in a tournament with semifinals on
Saturday and finals and a consolation game on Sunday.
