UNHCR wants Sri Lanka,India ferry service to resume

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has called for the resumption of ferry services between India and Sri Lanka.

Golam Abbas, representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Colombo has said that the resumption of ferry service would help Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from India to return home.

"We look forward to the resumption of the ferry service between India and Sri Lanka that would be of enormous support to those who wish to return," the Colombo Page quoted Abbas, as saying. (ANI)

Neyveli Lignite Corporation strike: Jayalalithaa writes to PM Modi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking urgent intervention in connection with the strike in Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd.

Around 15,000 employees of public sector NLC commenced an indefinite strike on July 21 to press their demand for wage revision.

The strike, which has been called by 13 trade unions, was followed by the failure of talks between them and the management.
