Our Proud Games history

2015 will be a year to remember for Papua New Guinea. In the year we celebrate 40 years of political independence, our Host City, Port Moresby, will also play host to the 2015 XV Pacific Games. It started as an idea to kinder friendship; bringing together the many cultures, ideas and interests of the sovereign nations in the Pacific through a common interest – sport. The first Games were held in 1963 in Suva, Fiji. Papua New Guinea stands apart in history as the only country to host the event three times– in 1969, 1991 and 2015.

Our team – represented by over 600 men and women, and competing across all 28 disciplines – will be looking to build on the success of 2011, when we returned from New Caledonia with no less than 120 medals. With the Games returning to Papua New Guinea for the first time in 24 years, we have the opportunity to once again unite our country of a thousand tribes; to bring together our many diverse cultures and sing with one voice. Port Moresby is set to shine on this most prominent of sporting stages, keeping the fire alive and burning brightly.
