Grand Rivers Market Adopts New Vision

IMG_20140827_150958_713The Grand Rivers IGA market will close September 8th for remodeling and reopen under new ownership as the VILLAGE MARKET & CAFE on Friday, September 26th. A focus group of some 20 or more community members met with the new owners in early August to brainstorm ideas and develop a vision for the future of the Market. The group included a number of local residents as well as boaters, campers and other shoppers.

In keeping with the group’s vision, Village Market will strive to provide exceptional customer service in a clean, bright environment well stocked with a variety of quality meats, fresh vegetables, fruits, bakery, dairy and frozen food products with a range of price points to meet the varying needs of the shoppers in the community.

Dr. Bette Burruss, former Chamber president, led the discussion while her husband, Bill Gary, took notes. He told the group that the name Village Market had been adopted because the market is intended to exist for the residents and visitors of Grand Rivers and to contribute to the future progress of the community. It is his goal to make the Village Cafe a gathering spot for the community where residents and visitors can enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee with a French pastry, a slice of freshly baked pizza or hot chicken wings or a cone of hand dipped ice cream while surfing the internet on their laptop or pad. Both indoor and outdoor seating are planned. Bill then introduced to the group M. Gregory Greene who will be the manager of the new Village Market & Cafe.

Greg, whose wife Debbie is a native of Grand Rivers, brings his 35 years of grocery management experience to the company. He welcomed the challenge of the focus group to make Village Market & Cafe a place where employees would be friendly, smiling and helpful to shoppers and make them will feel at home while they shop in an attractive store with delectable aromas from the bakery and cafe and colorful displays throughout the market. He promised a fully stocked market to meet the everyday needs of community shoppers as well as special occasion, holiday and lifestyle items including organic and gluten free selections of their choice.

Village Market & Cafe has partnered with Associated Wholesale Grocers, the second largest grocery co-op in America. AWG has a 800,000 sq. ft. distribution center near Nashville, Tennessee and over 20,000 grocery and related items to choose from. Greene expects that its twice weekly deliveries will insure a steady supply of quality fresh meats, poultry, dairy products and produce for the Market.

Bette, a dedicated gourmet cook, is working with members of the forum to develop exciting new sandwich and salad recipes for the new Cafe. The Grand Opening ceremony for Village Market & Cafe is scheduled to occur during the upcoming Hunter’s Moon Festival on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
