Comedian and actor Anne Meara passed away at the age of 85. Wife of comedian Jerry Stiller and actor Ben Stiller’s mother, Meara was an award winning performer who had enjoyed a six decade long career alongside her husband.
Their act became popular from The Ed Sullivan Show, where they had performed together making 36 appearances. The statement from the family said, “The two were married for 61 years and worked together almost as long.” Hollywood took to Twitter to express their condolences.
A comic legend, Anne Meara was a well loved member of the fraternity who will be remembered for shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, Kate McShane, All My Children, Sex and the City, The King of Queens, and Murphy Brown.
She had been nominated for an Emmy multiple times and had also won a Writers Guild Award for co-writing the 1983 TV movie, The Other Woman.
The family statement said - "Anne's memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne."
As Meara had once said, “"It's important to listen. Most people just want to know that they are heard." And heard she was.
Anne Meara will be remembered for putting a smile on uncountable faces.
