Sixty four youths from the 22 provinces of Papua New Guinea are in Port Moresby under the 2015 Pacific Games Youth Leadership Program, initiated by the Games Organising Committee in conjunction with each province.

GOC Chief Executive Officer, Peter Stewart said, “these youths are the leaders of tomorrow and through the Games we want to expose them to a whole range of activities that are happening to enhance their skills so that they can go back and continue their roles in their communities.”

The Program (YLP) is designed to empower young people through leadership training and participation in the 2015 Pacific Games.

The main objective of the YLP is to instill leadership skills and emphasize the importance of volunteers in the community.

The program also provides a unique and possibly life changing hands on experience during the Games through focused training and by engaging directly in leadership and volunteer work.

It aims to develop skills that will enhance their abilities in their current roles in their respective
communities.

The youths have just completed a one week program which included a two day leadership and team building course at the Institute of Business Studies.

The training provided an overview of resource and management skills, conflicts resolutions, safety management, planning and organising skills, leadership and motivational skills and team building.

The youth will now go into Games BSP Wantok Volunteer Program and will be assigned to various functional areas with specific roles and responsibilities.

At the conclusion of the Games, the 64 youths will be expected to produce a report on the lessons learnt during the program and how they plan to apply their newly acquired skills in their communities.
