PORT MORESBY, July 8 – Medals will be awarded in five sports on Thursday at the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games.

There will 18 golds up for grabs as powerlifting gets under way at the PNG Power Dome.

On the first of two days of competition in the sport, athletes from lighter weight categories will vie for the bench press, deadlift and squat medals in their weight.

Nine titles will be contested in the morning session from 09:00, while a further nine will be won in the afternoon session from 13:00.

There will be another day of swimming action at BSP Arena, with seven gold medals to be won in a hectic 90 minutes in the pool on Thursday evening.

The men’s 50m butterfly final at 18:01 will be the first medal race, and five more Pacific Games champions will be crowned before the final race of the day; the 4x50m freestyle relay mix final at 19.23.

Two golds will be won in shooting as the single rise mix competition takes place at the June Valley Shooting Range, with the final shootoff starting at 16:00.

In squash, the men’s and women’s team finals will take place at Steamships Racquet Club from 13.00, while the two tennis team finals will also be contested at the same venue.

Rugby 7s continues on Thursday, with Papua New Guinea’s women facing Australia at the BSP Stadium at 19.42 after taking on Tahiti at 17:08. The PNG men play Solomon Islands at 17:52 in their only match of the day.

There will also be action in touch football, basketball, cricket and sailing.
