Earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis are only some of the natural disasters threatening the safety of U.S. citizens abroad. When natural disasters occur abroad, the Department of State and U.S. embassies and consulates in the affected country stand ready around the clock to locate and assist U.S. citizens in need.

We are aware of the difficult choices and decisions which must be made during an evacuation, and the Department of State stands ready to assist U.S. citizens; however pets usually cannot be accommodated on an evacuation flight. Whenever possible, you should make arrangements for someone in country to take care of your pets.
