Matthew Bromberg appointed as BioWare's new boss

Former BioWare Austin general manager fills the gap left by co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.

Matthew Bromberg is the new boss of Mass Effect and Dragon Age developer BioWare, VentureBeat reports.

Now group general manager of the BioWare label, Bromberg was previously general manager of BioWare Austin, the studio behind the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic. He joined BioWare in 2012, as BioWare was shifting The Old Republic into a free-to-play MMO game, and was previously CEO of eSports company Major League Gaming.

Alongside leading the Austin studio, Bromberg will take over Mass Effect and Dragon Age studios BioWare Edmonton and Montreal studios, the Los Angeles-based Command & Conquer developer Victory, and the Waystone Studio in Redwood City, California, which is currently producing the MOBA Dawngate.

Jeff Hickman will replace Bromberg as general manager of BioWare Austin.

BioWare's original co-founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, left the company in 2012.

Been following this thread, and as an ardent single game player that dabbles occationaly in multi player. I have to ask myself why more companies do not go the skyrim way and make both as seperate games and potentialy double thier chances of profit?

I can only hope for some talent to lead such a loved an honored developer, buuuuutt EA (i know sounds like a bad joke) has really warped some amazing IP's that have come out into stuff that is no where near the quality it was built on.

If this new guy is just another EA lackey- pay to play, always online, buy add ons or play half games, and emphasis on poorly made online coop - Then this company will be like THQ I am afraid.

Bioware died years ago. Call them BioEA, EA or crap but "Bioware" is no more. Now it is just a division of EA.

I miss Bioware.

There goes the neighborhood. Another EA lackey to ruin Bioware.

I'm doubting the guy, especially because he's from Bioware Austin but I'll let his actions convince me. Give him the benefit of doubt for now.

I know I'm the odd one out, but I loved DA2 & ME3!! Think all their games are great, looking forward to DA3, hopefully having a new boss doesn't mean the Company will suffer.

"He joined BioWare in 2012" this is so what I dont like, new people getting appointment chiefs, you mean to tell there were not enough good candidates there who work for the company 10 years, could do the job and actually have a passion for the company instead of newcomers which just might want to milk the job and then move one? this is the biggest mistake companies make appointing execs from outside inside of using the people that have been on the inside for years and have passion for the company

Hopefully his first move will be to fire Casey Hudson.  If so, that'd be the smartest move Bioware has made since developing KOTOR 2.

I bought both DA:O and ME3, but I didn't enjoy them. Felt too much story; If I want a good story, then I'll read a book. Gameplay itself felt sluggish, framerates were awefull (especially PS3) and it felt limited (talking -and -shooting/attacking cycle).

I guess Bioware is not the game developer for me...

And he will find more ways to rip gamers off and ruin SWTOR more.

Old Republic became unplayable after it went F2P. What kind of game charges for the running feature? Can't wait for Microtransactions effect 4.

Look at it this way, they have something to prove-that what ray and Gregg did does not go to crap and I am sure the first thing on their hungry mind is make sure DA I wont suck, I would rather wait til 2015 as opposed to 2014 just so they get everything in the game and working right as opposed to rushing out the gate a smaller less attractive game(DA 2 lol sucked, sorry don't want to make another rant ut of it hence ().Hawke makes a few small appearences or cameo whatever, im in this time around dor a)CREATURES that will challenge and expand the DA universe abit EX:Dragorian-a humanoidistic cousin of the dragon made by the Foulspawn through dark magic, Hobgoblins a nice niche for Ogres, hence are smarter as humans or can grow more powerful towards multi classing like one aside from wearing more powerful gear.Trolls would be cool, they regenerate and hate fire or acid.A variety of em also would be awesome.Hydras and Wyverns or Ettins, Manticores and Harpys, Baskilisks and vampires some demons and devils. This is the inquisition the opposition needs to formidable.i hated DA's hand holding combat system, getting stomped every now and then is always a good crawl.Giants would be nice and some Ghouls and Werewolves..The point being they need to expand the roster of creatures for Da 3 as the LOOTS I am sure will be better this time around, THANK GOD(if not screw you lol), grins:)

Well Bioware has been slowly losing significance for a few years now but i have all the hope in the world for DA:I and hope they can recapture the hearts of bitter fans. SWTOR wasn't a bad MMO at all and the stories i felt were fun and awesome. Although i will not disagree with anyone when i say i would have preferred KOTOR3 instead.

RogueBase

@cboye18 That's the whole damn thing about DAO. The story, if you're capable of understanding it. They knew there were going to be follow ons. So you had to have the background, needed to get to know the characters, DAO, was all about laying out the beginnings. The plots, the histories. If you can't understand that, then no, maybe you shouldn't have played it.

dani_i89
dani_i89

@cboye18 Gameplay in ME3 was the most refined...all of the games were heavily story orientated. You're saying you like ME1 and 2 because the action was less refined...and story was also less refined? How very shallow...Complaining about having too much story in a bioware game is like complaining to McDonalds about their lack of healthy, organic food...

greygaurdianx

@cboye18 Story is the whole point of a bioware game.

@ElvinasD Wait...KOTR Charge to run? How does that work...And LOL at the Microtransactions 4 commit...That's what it's become over there at EA.

Auriken

@ElvinasD Funny how the people who hate it the most are the ones who want everything without paying a dime. If the f2p members get most of the same benefits as thee p2p members there won't be any p2p members. Businesses need to make money, but gamers foolishly shun them when they actively try to make money.

By the way, the game isn't unplayable. Anyone who has spent more than ten minutes in the game, f2p or p2p, can see there is a very large and active community.

morderwrath

a)MORE monsters, a challenging game this time please.

b)Loots

c)Multi Classing allowance

d)The Class system from DA

e)LOOTS, drops that are worth a crap

F)Not more Dungeons per say but Really HUGE ones, hence maybe 4 or 6 in the whole game but so big you may have to do certain parts of the game to see the other parts of one dungeon to continue the game or and the dungeon in question..

pyro1245
pyro1245

@RoyialNetwork Yeah I think DA:I will have to be a winner or we will probably all forget about how awesome BioWare was. And yeah SWTOR had awesome stories but the gameplay was shit.

mingolo
mingolo

@Katz @ElvinasD Yes, you get the "ability" to run at level 15, if you want it before that, you need to pay for it.

The way to do F2P is how Guild Wars 2 does it. TOR's way of doing it is just dumb, although it has improved greatly since it begun.

Retro_Hermit
Retro_Hermit

@Auriken @ElvinasD TOR F2P was awful.....just atrociously awful; having to pay to hide your head slot, display titles, sprint, being capped on the amount of warfronts and flashpoints you could do ect ect. Decent F2P options make their money by selling cosmetic items, additions to the game and so on. Look at Rift...their entire game is open for free, no limits and no restrictions, and their store only sells things like convenience boosts, cool armor sets and what not. You're right, TOR isn't unplayable as a free user, but it's bloody offensive when they make it so difficult to play without purchasing a bunch of mundane crap that you would expect to be part of the basic game.

ElvinasD
ElvinasD

@Auriken @ElvinasD I do know what F2P models is. I don't expect everything to be for free. There are abundant of games that are F2P and don't use over the top aggressive microtransaction practices that are present in Old Republic.

ElvinasD
ElvinasD

@Auriken @ElvinasD Never played DDO or LOTRO. Thx for telling me about their f2p practices, now I won't have to waste my time downloading them.

Auriken
Auriken

@ElvinasD @Auriken DDO and LOTRO. Two of the biggest f2p games available. They both have MUCH worse f2p models than TOR.

@northArrow @morderwrath Mass Effect's MP was actually really enjoyable though.. ._. same with Last of Us'. I agree, none need a "tacked on" MP, (Tomb Raider), but if there's a solid and enjoyable one added.. the more longevity the better, for me.

northArrow
northArrow

@morderwrath No, Not every game needs an MP tacked on to it, Mass Effect is one of those games
