Boy, 8, testifies in mother's murder trial after infant dies
BATON ROUGE- An 8-year-old Baton Rouge boy has testified in his mother's murder trial in connection to the death of the woman's 11-month daughter.
The boy testified Wednesday that he misses his mother but fears her boyfriend - the girl's father - because he says the man would beat the girl with a slipper and belt.
Thirty-year-old Ashley Heard is facing second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile charges in the June 2013 death of Aaliyah Heard.
Heard's boyfriend, 28-year-old Larry Leflore, is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree cruelty and will be tried at a later date.
Prosecutors say that even if Heard did not inflict the severe injuries found on the baby, she was criminally negligent in allowing what happened to her daughter.
