Council of Elders
The governing body of the Northern Rangelands Trust is the Council of Elders, made up of the elected chairmen and chairladies of the member conservancies, as well as representatives from the local County Councils, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the private sector.
The Council’s role is to develop and reinforce the standards and principles of the Northern Rangelands Trust among its members. It reviews conservancy performance of its members, ensures that the management approaches used by the Trust equitably distribute the benefits arising from conservation initiatives, and reviews applications from prospective new conservancies that wish to join the Trust. Through a process of peer review it guides the member conservancies in good governance and leadership, transparent financial management, community development and wildlife conservation.
The Council of Elders also nominates the members of the Board of Directors of the Northern Rangelands Trust.
Board of Directors
The operations of the Northern Rangelands Trust (and the Northern Rangelands Company Ltd – the operating arm of NRT, registered as a not-for-profit company) are guided by a Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors is made up of political and community leaders, business professionals and conservation practitioners.
