NRT North Rift

As the number of NRT conservancies grows, so does the need for more satellite NRT support centres. NRT’s main headquarters is situated in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which has worked closely with NRT since its inception. While Lewa provides a good base for the central conservancies (Isiolo, Laikipia, Samburu), it is too remote to effectively support conservancies in Turkana and West Pokot. NRT North Rift – a regional office of NRT – was established in 2015, to support the six community conservancies here. NRT North Rift has its own regional council of elders, members of which also attend NRT’s overarching Council of Elders meetings to ensure the link between the two is kept strong.

NRT North Rift currently includes the community conservancies of Lokichar, Lochakula, Katilu and Kainuk in Turkana County, and Masol and Pellow in West Pokot County. These conservancies were set up in partnership with Tullow Oil and Africa Oil.
