3 SCOTS exercise Freedom of Angus during parade in Forfar

Around 130 soldiers from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS) exercised the Freedom of Angus during a parade in Forfar Town.

3 SCOTS received the Freedom of Angus in 2006, an honour bestowed to valued members of the community and Army units with historic ties to the area as a token of appreciation for long and dedicated service. The honour allows them the privilege to march into the town with drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed.

The battalion returned from a six month United Nation Peacekeeping mission in Cyprus earlier this year. Based in Nicosia, the soldiers were responsible for patrolling the UN buffer zone, a demilitarized area which runs for over 100 miles along what is called the ‘Green Line’
