With private school fees in the UK at their least affordable since the 1960s, and with many slashing or freezing fees from next term as middle-class parents struggle to pay, we take a look at some of the most expensive schools in the world.
Charterhouse,
England
Fees: £35,529
Alumni: Jeremy Hunt (politician), Peter Gabriel (singer), Jonathan
Dimbleby (TV presenter)
About the school: Founded in 1611, Charterhouse moved to its current
250 acre site in Godalming, Surrey in 1872. Along with a strong academic
record, the school also has a thriving arts scene, and puts on seven to
eight full scale major theatre productions each year. The drama department
also offers LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons. In addition to drama, there are
around 80 extra-curricular clubs and societies; from alternative music to
world cinema and wine appreciation.
