British managers abroad - hit or miss?

Steve McClaren
Steve McClaren’s foreign jaunts are perhaps best remembered for the bizarre ‘Shteve’ interview he gave in 2008 when the former England boss affected a Dutch accent having just been appointed FC Twente manager. That strange episode should not detract through from what was a very successful spell in Holland, with McClaren leading Twente to the Eredivisie title in 2010. That summer he left Twente to take the job at Wolfsburg where he struggled and was sacked in February 2011 after a run of poor results. Following a spell at Nottingham Forest, McClaren returned to Twente in January 2012 but left just over a year later by mutual consent with the club fifth in the table.

Verdict: Hit
