‘X-Men: Danger Room Protocols’ shut down after one episode

danger-room-social

“X-Men: Danger Room Protocols,” a fan-made animated tribute to the 1990s cartoon and comics, has ended after just one episode, purportedly due to legal pressure from Marvel.

“When I set out to make this project, I never really thought this was going to be an issue,” creator Joel Furtado said in a video posted this morning. “I didn’t think that Marvel was going to react this way, and this outcome, for me, is a little bit shocking.”

When contacted by ROBOT 6, Marvel declined comment.

Deadpool meets Deathstroke in George Perez mashup

deathstroke-deadpool-social

Legendary artist George Perez brings together Marvel’s Merc With a Mouth and DC’s own mercenary/assassin for a commission sketch that literally merges Deadpool with Deathstroke. Seriously, they split the body right down the middle.

“With the Deadpool movie coming out and with its connection to the Deathstroke character, this seemed like a nice piece to put up,” wrote Perez, who created Deathstroke with Marv Wolfman. “Truthfully, I wasn’t particularly aware of the connection between these two characters until the person who commissioned this piece pointed it out to me. I hope you all enjoy this unusual merging.”

Supreme Court asked to consider Batmobile copyright case

#1 Batmobile, Superheroes, gadgets, Cable Cutter, Bat-Ray Projec

A manufacturer of unlicensed Batmobile replicas has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to determine whether Batman’s signature vehicle is indeed protected by copyright.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Towle of Gotham Garage filed a writ of certiorari today asking the justices to review his nearly five-year-old dispute with DC Comics.

Towle, who produced replicas of  the 1966 and 1989 Batmobiles that sold for as much as $90,000 each, was sued in 2011 by DC, which claimed copyright and trademark infringement, trademark counterfeiting and unfair competition. Towle had argued that the U.S. Copyright Act doesn’t protect “useful articles,” defined as objects that have “an intrinsic utilitarian function” (for example, clothing, household appliances or, in this case, automobile functions); in short, that the Batmobile’s design is merely functional.

This ‘Star Wars’ toilet prank embraces the Dark Side … of the flush

toilet-star-wars

Of the many sights you might expect to see when you step out of — or, worse, into — a portable toilet, a corridor crammed with Stormtroopers and Darth Vader probably isn’t among them. However, judging from this video, it apparently occurs in Brazil with some regularity.

It’s, of course, a clever hidden-camera prank on the same SBT network television show that last year sent the Sith Lord and his troops chasing after unsuspecting pedestrians. In this version, once someone enters the portable toilet, the corridor set is quickly wheeled up and populated with Imperial forces so that when they exit, they’re met with a surprise (complete with fog effect).
