It's still four months until Glastonbury 2016 – and 16 until 2017's festival – but festival boss Michael Eavis revealed that the headliners for the next two years have already been booked. Since then speculation has gone all over the shop but here's a collection of what we know so far and the most likely contenders for 2016's headlining slot, based on bookies' odds and the more reliable rumours out there.

CONFIRMED

1. COLDPLAY
The four-piece will headline the Sunday night of this year's festival. After a phenomenal start to 2016 - playing the Super Bowl 50 half-time show and scooping up our very own Godlike Genius award at this year's NME Awards with Austin Texas, Coldplay are one of the biggest bands in the world.

The lads talked to us about how it feels to be returning to Worthy Farm for the fourth time below.

2. MUSE
Muse will become the first band to headline each night of the festival when they take the stage on the Friday night of Glastonbury later this year. They announced themselves for the annual knees-up via Twitter. It'll be their third time headlining the event.

And now for the rumours...

3. ADELE
Why: Adele embarks on her global ‘25’ tour to celebrate her record-breaking album.
Tell Me More: Hold your horses: the festival-shy singer addressed speculation about her potential Glasto slot last month: “I went this year to watch Kanye [West]. It was pretty insane… I don’t know if I could do it”.
William Hill’s odds: 5/1

NME’s verdict: “Hello. It’s me. Here at Glastonburyyy”. Seriously, how great would that be to hear on the Pyramid? Still, we’re doubtful this will come to fruition, given her comments. Anyway, Adele’s kind of too classy for the festival. In her own words: "Well, the front row – they always do a poo and a pee so they don't lose their spot. They do – I have seen it happen! I nearly did it myself years ago. It's true, that is why it stinks down the front."

4. THE STONE ROSES
Why: The lads have lined up four gigantic homecoming shows in Manchester and a headline slot at T In The Park in July, and a new album may also be on the horizon.
Tell Me More: The Stone Roses owe Glastonbury one after their cancelling their headline slot after John Squire broke his collarbone in 1995
William Hill’s odds: 7/2

NME’s verdict: With or without new material, this could be one of the Pyramid’s greatest ever sets. If the band fill their pockets with enough cash elsewhere, there’s a real possibility they could take Glasto’s smaller fee and finally fulfill our dreams.

5. PRINCE
Why: The Glasto tease is hitting up European shores later this month (November), perhaps a spot of tea dow at Worthy Farm to hash out the details?
Tell Me More: In 2014 Prince was lined up for the Saturday night slot, but social media rumors prompted him to cancel, and this year a member of The Who claimed that they were a replacement as “Prince decided not to show up this year”.
William Hill’s odds: 20/1

NME’s verdict: He’s one of the last superstars to elude Worthy Farm, so we are desperate for this to finally happen, but it’s kind of impossible to predict. The diminutive one marches to the beat of his own drum.

6. AC/DC
Why: One of the world’s biggest rock acts and yet to star on the Pyramid.
Tell Me More: Lead singer Brian Johnson revealed last year that the band would love to play, but are still waiting for the festival to ask them.
William Hill’s odds: 20/1

NME’s verdict: Would likely be one of the most bombastic rock’n’roll performances Glasto has ever seen. Yet they brought their own stage to play on at Download in 2010, so we’re not sure if the Eavis’ will welcome their farmhouse being crushed by an additional stage.

7. FOO FIGHTERS
Why: Lined up to headline in 2015, but withdrew after Dave Grohl broke his leg.
Tell Me More: Rumours suggested that the band are already signed up for 2016’s festival and Grohl appears keen to make amends.
William Hill’s odds: 6/1

NME’s verdict: Dave owes us this one so let’s just get on with it and make it happen. Both parties are reported to welcome a return after 2015’s disaster – let’s get ready to “RAWKKK!”

8. FLEETWOOD MAC
Why: Constantly rumoured to grace the stage, year in, year out.
Tell Me More: The Mirror have boldly claimed a deal for Stevie Nicks and co to play Glastonbury in 2016 is already signed.
William Hill’s odds: 20/1

NME’s verdict: The success of their last tour proves they could wow even the harshest Glasto critics, but we don’t bank on this one. It’s hard to see this one happening without a full tour surrounding the festival, of which there are no signs right now.

9. BLUR
Why: The Brit-poppers were among bookies’ favourites to replace Foo Fighters in 2015 and the odds place them in a similar position this year.
Tell Me More: It’s probably a pipe-dream as it look likes Damon Albarn’s side-project Gorillaz will be up-and-running next year.
William Hill’s odds: 20/1

NME’s verdict: The 2009 set was a special moment in their history, so it might be best to leave this one unsullied. If Gorillaz are indeed monkey-ing around next year, perhaps look for them to headline instead.

10. MILEY CYRUS
Why: Because Michael Eavis has just gone back on his recent comments that Cyrus wouldn't be appearing.
Tell Me More: Talking about the former Hannah Montana star, festival boss Eavis commented, "People keep asking me if Miley Cyrus is playing. I can't say 'Yes' or 'No' to any name, because it only adds to the speculation about who will be appearing... I think everyone has a place at Glastonbury".
William Hill's odds: N/A

NME's verdict: It'd be quite the curveball, but it's hard to imagine Glasto-virgin Cyrus playing second fiddle at the festival instead of headlining the event – and Eavis has already said that two of the headliners for the next two years haven't played the festival before.
