FAQ: Submissions

Dark Horse Comics does not accept unsolicited submissions for stories involving any licensed or creator-owned property. This includes Sin City, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, Conan, etc.
Sure. Download a MS Word document by clicking here, or a PDF by clicking here. Also, make sure you visit our submissions page. This sample script has a couple of uses:

1) Pencillers wanting to submit samples may use it in order to draw a good variety of different scenes.
2) Writers may use it as a template for the standard comic book script format.

Good luck!

Yes, we do! Please visit our entire section for further information on submitting to Dark Horse.
Dark Horse does not publish pay rates.
Yes. Just send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough and with enough postage to accomodate several 11" x 17" xerox copies. Also, please include a letter stating your request for samples to ink and send it to this address:

Due to the large volume of submissions Dark Horse Comics receives every week, we cannot guarantee a quick turnaround time. We no longer return submissions. If an editor is interested in working with you, you will be contacted. Otherwise, we don't have the resources to respond to each submission. Please don't call, fax or e-mail to check on the status of your submission. Our submissions editor is extremely busy and if we attempt to check on the status of your submission, it will be taking time away from actually reviewing submissions as well as his other duties.

Also, please don't expect us to critique your work. If you're looking for pointers or critiques, please attend one or more of the many comic book conventions that take place all over the country. We'll be more than happy to look at your stuff there and give you some pointers.

One word: Quality. Dark Horse Comics isn't looking for a particular style of writing or artwork. We simply want anyone sending us a submission to send us quality stuff, whether it's artwork, a story, etc. Your best bet is going to be drawing or writing something that you want to draw; don't try to anticipate what we'd like to see.
We sure do! Dark Horse Comics works with artists and writers from all over the world. Please view and follow the submissions guidelines if you would like to send something in for consideration.
