The EU’s external policies, strategies, instruments and missions – overseen by the European External Action Service – have four key aims. They support stability, promote human rights and democracy, seek to spread prosperity, and support the enforcement of the rule of law and good governance. The policy mix is vast, ranging from bilateral agreements to guidelines and legislation. Foreign affairs and other issues are discussed monthly in the Foreign Affairs Council chaired by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
