The Pontiac Motor Vehicle Co.
Pontiac, Michigan
1908

The Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works was producing buggies, surreys and road carts as early as the 1880s in Pontiac, Michigan. By 1899 this company was incorporated by Albert G. North and Harry G. Hamilton. In 1905 The Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works merged with the Rapid Motor Vehicle Co.

These two men in 1907 began the production of an American Automobile called the Pontiac. Pontiac Spring & Wagon Works made the first Pontiac Car ever built.

The Pontiac was a High Wheeler powered by a two cylinder water cooled engine that developed 12 horsepower. With a wheel base of 70 inches the Pontiac featured final drive by double chain and a friction transmission. It had solid rubber tires all around, 38 inch wheels in front and 40 inches on the rear.

In 1907 The Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works announced that they would build buggy type automobiles in three models, a runabout shown above and below, a surrey and a vehicle design especially for farmer's use. These automobiles were to be placed on the market for the 1908 season. The price was set at $650.00 with a roof and $600.00 without. Wheelbase was 70 inches.
