Why is sa-pi-de a commodity and not an allative?
sa-pi-de appears on PY Vn 19 and MY Ge 602. The -de ending frequently denotes an allative of a toponym (place name). ko-no-so-de is “to ko-no-so”, sa-ma-ra-de is “to sa-ma-ra”, etc. Reverse engineering this, we might expect to find “sa-pi” … Continue reading

Studying
I spent the afternoon studying the personnel lists of Linear B in Documents in Mycenaean Greek by Michael Ventris and John Chadwick. I thought it was interesting that PU-RO (Pylos) is specifically called out on tablets that come from Pylos.
