Former eBay vice-president Clare Gilmartin now heads up one of the UK's most successful digital businesses, trainline.com. The website sells a train ticket every two-and-a-half seconds and has seen 25% growth year-on-year. Gilmartin has brought technological advances to Trainline thanks to insights gleaned from her ten years at eBay, and hopes to make train travel even more convenient – she has a policy of listening to customer complaints to identify first-hand with the problems they experience. The website's much-promoted mobile app is UK travel's most successful, and Gilmartin hopes Trainline will see further growth with provision of tickets for foreign operators such as SNCF in France and Renfe in Spain. Gilmartin graduated from University College Dublin and worked for Unilever and Boston Consulting Group prior to eBay. She took up the top job at Trainline at just 39.
