The eleventh to take office, Ephraim Mirvis is the UK’s Chief Rabbi and head of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth. Mirvis is tasked with promoting unity amongst different religious communities and was the first United Synagogue rabbi to host an address by an imam in his synagogue. He also appointed the UK’s first female halachic adviser. As Rabbi of Finchley United Synagogue, Mirvis gained a reputation as a highly respected community rabbi and led the Finchley community to become one of the largest and most dynamic congregations in the country.
