Pearl Lam

For more than 20 years, gallery owner Pearl Lam has been dedicated to championing artists and designers who re-evaluate and challenge perceptions of Asian culture. Lam started organising pop-up exhibitions in Hong Kong in 1993 and now has galleries in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. In 2004, she was asked by the French cultural attaché to organise and curate a major exhibition in Shanghai as part of the French year in China and the Chinese year in France. The exhibition was called ‘Awakening: La France Mandarin’ and travelled to Beijing, Hong Kong and Paris that year. She has been named one of the most influential women in art and in 2014 a Cultured magazine article dubbed her ‘Asia’s Art Empress’. Her work ranges from sponsoring exhibitions of western art in China to funding an artist-in-residence programme in Shanghai for Western and Asian designers and her company Pearl Lam Design shows works by both established and emerging designers.
